Do you need a permit?
Plano requires a permit for electrical work.
Under Section 6-351(b) of the Electrical Code of the City of Plano, adopted by Ordinance No. 2025-6-13, no permit is required for the making of a minor repair or for maintenance work, the replacement of lamps, or the connection of portable electrical equipment to suitable permanently installed receptacles. No permit is required of an appropriately registered person for replacing a refrigeration motor with another motor of the same horsepower and ampere rating, or for solenoid valves, low pressure controls, or other controls that are part of the refrigeration system, where the electrical supply to it is or has been properly installed by a registered electrician.
