Do you need a permit?
San Antonio requires a permit for a deck.
An uncovered deck at a one- or two-family home is exempt while it stays at 300 square feet or less, rises no more than 30 inches off the ground at any point, stands clear of the house, and is not the landing for a required exit door. Once the deck or a roof over it passes 300 square feet, or any part of it clears 30 inches above grade, a permit applies.
