San Antonio requires a permit for electrical work.
Chapter 10 of the City Code exempts minor electrical repairs or maintenance performed by a licensed electrical contractor, replacement of lamps, connection of approved portable equipment to permanently installed receptacles, replacement of refrigeration and heating, ventilating and air conditioning motors and their associated controls by a licensed mechanical contractor, and communications wiring operating at 50 volts nominal or less.
