Do you need a permit?
Springville requires a permit for general building work.
Springville hands out a list of work exempt from permits, keyed to the 2021 IRC. Detached single-story sheds and playhouses make the list at 200 sq ft or less, dropping to 120 sq ft on non-residential property. So do fences up to 7 feet tall; earth-retaining walls of 4 feet or under, measured footing base to wall top, so long as nothing surcharges them; water tanks resting on grade at 5,000 gallons or less whose height is no more than double their width; walkways and driveways; surface finish work such as paint, wallpaper, tile, carpet, cabinetry and countertops; pool kits holding water shallower than 24 inches; backyard play structures; window awnings that reach out 54 inches or less without added support; decks sitting 30 inches or less above grade that need no guards and do not serve a required exit door; and unconnected conex boxes set at grade, under 350 sq ft, used strictly for storage. The handout also carves out narrow electrical, gas, mechanical and plumbing repairs plus portable appliances. Where equipment is replaced on an emergency basis, the application is due the next business day.
