Do you need a permit?
Washington requires a permit for general building work.
City Code 8-1-2 adopts the current uniform/international building code adopted by the state, requires a written permit application with plans and specifications, prohibits variation from the approved plans without authorization, and makes a violation a misdemeanor (Class C for a homeowner, Class B for a paid contractor) with an exception for projects under $500; the city council sets permit fees by resolution and the building official determines valuation. Effective July 1, 2026 all plans submitted for permit must reflect the Utah adopted statewide codes: 2023 NEC, 2021 Utah State Residential Code, 2024 IBC, 2024 IMC, 2024 IPC, 2024 IFCI, 2024 IECC, 2024 ISPSC, 2024 IEBC and ICC A117.1-2009 or 2017 standard.
