Do you need a permit?
Washington requires a permit for a fence.
City Code 9-14-12 sets fence, wall and hedge heights and requires a building permit only above a height threshold: the code allows fences, walls and hedges to the permitted building height when located within the buildable area, provided a building permit is obtained for any structure over six feet in height. In rear and interior side yards the height may not exceed six feet, and within the first ten feet from the street property line in a front yard the height may not exceed three feet. Individual shrubs are not a hedge unless spaced less than five feet apart, and where the grade differs on either side of a common boundary the structure may reach the maximum height permitted on either side of the line.
