Do you need a permit?
Washington requires a permit for a water heater.
Water heater replacement is handled as a 'simple permit'; the city directs applicants to select the 'ELECTRICAL', 'GAS LINE' or 'PLUMBING' permit type most compatible with the inspection need. Note that on new residential plans the city requires the water heater recirculation pump location to be shown on the plumbing plan in compliance with Washington City Ordinance 2022-22 and 2022-63.
