Do you need a permit?
Tacoma requires a permit for electrical work.
An electrical permit is not required for like-in-kind replacement of any of the following: a contactor, relay, timer, starter, electronic circuit board or similar control component, a household appliance, a circuit breaker, a fuse, a residential luminaire, a lamp, a snap switch, a dimmer, a receptacle outlet, a thermostat, a heating element, a luminaire ballast replaced with an exact same ballast, components of electric signs, outline lighting, skeleton lighting or skeleton neon tubing where the electrical system is not modified, or a motor of 10 horsepower or smaller. Also exempt are induction detection loops described in WAC 296-46B-300(2) used to control gate access devices, heat cable repair, and embedding pre-manufactured heat mats in tile grout where the mat is listed by an approved testing laboratory and comes from the manufacturer with pre-connected lead-in conductors, with all listing marks and lead-in conductor labels left intact and visible for evaluation and inspection.
