Concrete Curing Materials and Admixtures

711.01Curing Materials. Curing materials shall conform to the following requirements:

Burlap Cloth made from Jute or Kenaf AASHTO M 182 Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing Concrete ASTM C309 Sheet Materials for Curing Concrete AASHTO M 171* *Only the performance requirements of AASHTO M171 shall apply.

Straw used for curing shall consist of threshed straw of oats, barley, wheat, or rye. Clean field or marsh hay may be substituted for straw when approved by the Engineer. Old dry straw or hay that breaks readily in the spreading process will not be accepted.

Liquid Membrane-Forming Compounds for Curing Concrete shall be from a preapproved source listed on the Department’s Approved Products List

711.02Air-Entraining Admixtures. Air-entraining admixtures shall conform to the

requirements of AASHTO M 154.

Air-Entraining Admixtures shall be from a preapproved source listed on the Department’s Approved Products List

Admixtures that have been frozen will be rejected per subsections 106.08 and 106.09.

711.03Chemical Admixtures. Chemical admixtures for concrete shall conform to the

requirements of AASHTO M 194.

Admixtures that have been frozen will be rejected.

Corrosion inhibiting admixtures shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C1582.

Pigments for integrally coloring concrete shall conform to the requirements of ASTM C979.

Citric acid for use with ASTM C1600 cement shall be provided in liquid form with 49-52% solids.

Chemical Admixtures shall be from a preapproved source listed on the Department’s Approved Products List
