Shed permit checklist — Mesa, Arizona

Assembled from Mesa’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Mesa does not require a permit for a shed.

When a permit is not required

Detached accessory buildings, a shed or a playhouse for example, stay off the permit requirement below 200 square feet of floor area, as long as nothing electrical, mechanical or plumbing is run to them. At 200 square feet or less no permit is needed, but the structure still has to satisfy Section 11-30-17 in Chapter 30, General Site Development Standards. An exemption is not a license to ignore Mesa building or zoning rules.

Listed because the city publishes a separate rule for each type — not because this project necessarily triggers one. Whether it does depends on your scope of work.
