Fence permit checklist — Phoenix, Arizona

Assembled from Phoenix’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Phoenix requires a permit for a fence.

When a permit is not required

Fences other than swimming pool barriers that are not over 3 feet high do not require a permit, and neither does replacement of an existing permitted fence of the same material, height and location accessory to a single-family residence. Fences between 3 feet and 7 feet high require a permit reviewed for city code and Zoning Ordinance requirements only. Structural design calculations and details are not required for individual fences 7 feet or less in height.
