Huntington Beach requires a permit for a deck.
Huntington Beach uses the standard state threshold: sidewalks, platforms, decks and driveways not more than 30 inches above the adjacent grade, and not located over a basement or story below, are exempt from a building permit. A deck more than 30 inches above grade, or any deck over occupied space, requires a permit regardless of size.
