Do you need a permit?
Colorado Springs requires a permit for electrical work.
Electrical work is exempt from permit only as provided under Section RBC307 of the 2023 Pikes Peak Regional Building Code, which adopts the National Electrical Code by reference in the edition current within twelve months after adoption by the Colorado State Electrical Board, together with that board's revisions, modifications and exceptions. Section RBC105.2.2 adds a separate exemption that reaches only work carried out by, or for the use of, public telephone, telegraph and messenger call companies operating under authority granted by the jurisdiction, or other public or private utilities. Within that limit it covers utility-controlled communication equipment and utility installations for metering, generation, control, transformation, transmission and distribution of electricity or natural gas, where those installations sit outdoors on utility-owned or leased ground, in public rights-of-way, or in buildings used only by the utility for that purpose. New buildings that house those installations are not covered.
