Hialeah requires a permit for a fence.
Hialeah published guidance on the $7,500 residential exemption at Florida Statutes Section 553.79(1)(g), in force since July 1, 2026, does not mention fences. It does narrow the exemption to cosmetic and maintenance work that leaves the structure untouched, and it withholds the exemption from any alteration needing zoning review and approval. An owner should confirm the point with the Building Division rather than assume a fence qualifies. Property in a flood hazard area is excluded in any case.
