Do you need a permit?
Jacksonville requires a permit for electrical work.
Connection of portable equipment such as portable heating appliances, portable ventilation equipment, portable cooling units and portable evaporative coolers does not require a permit. Miscellaneous electrical permits that do not require an inspection are charged a reduced fee rather than being exempt. The statewide $7,500 residential permit exemption created by Fla. Stat. 553.79(1)(g) on July 1, 2026 offers electrical work nothing. Electrical is named in the statute as ineligible whatever the job is worth, so the JaxEPICS permit and its associated inspection remain in place.
