Do you need a permit?
Chicago requires a permit for a fence.
A permit is not required to install a fence no more than 5 feet above the ground, measured on both sides, that conforms to the Chicago Zoning Ordinance, to remove such a fence, or to maintain an existing fence by painting it or replacing a limited number of damaged elements.
