Deck permit checklist — Fargo, North Dakota
Assembled from Fargo’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Fargo requires a permit for a deck.
The deck exemption in Fargo's local amendment to IRC Section R105.2 is narrow: 120 square feet or less, no point higher than 7 inches off the ground, no attachment to the house, and no role as the landing for the required exit door. The Patio Decks handout tells owners to have the building permit in hand before starting.
