Shed permit checklist — Fargo, North Dakota
Assembled from Fargo’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Fargo requires a permit for a shed.
The Fargo Municipal Code's local amendment to IRC Section R105.2 exempts one-story detached accessory structures other than storm shelters whose floor area does not exceed 120 square feet, and the Inspections Department's frequently asked questions page states that a permit is needed if a shed will be larger than 120 square feet or is in the floodplain; the Detached Garages and Accessory Buildings handout states that a building permit must be acquired before any work begins.
