Do you need a permit?
Fargo does not require a permit for a fence.
The Residential Fence Requirements handout states that a building permit is required only for a fence exceeding 8.5 feet in height, which matches the Fargo Municipal Code's local amendments to IBC Section 105.2 and IRC Section R105.2 exempting fences not over 8.5 feet high; the Inspections Department's frequently asked questions page states that a permit is generally not needed unless the fence will be more than 6.5 feet tall.
