Retaining wall permit checklist — Omaha, Nebraska
Assembled from Omaha’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Omaha requires a permit for a retaining wall.
A retaining wall not over six feet high, measured from the bottom of the finished grade to the top of the wall, does not require a building permit unless it supports a surcharge or impounds Class I, II or III-A liquids. Exempt walls must still comply with the zoning ordinance and other pertinent ordinances, and separate plumbing, electrical and mechanical permits are required unless otherwise exempted.
