Do you need a permit?
Newark requires a permit for general building work.
Work that falls within the ordinary maintenance list at N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.7 may be performed without filing a permit application and without notice to the construction official. Work that falls within the minor work list at N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.17A still requires a permit, but it may begin once notice is given to the construction official, with the permit application delivered within five business days and the fee paid before the permit is issued.
