Re-roof permit checklist — Newark, New Jersey
Assembled from Newark’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Newark does not require a permit for a re-roof.
N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.7 treats the repair or replacement of existing roof covering on detached one- and two-family dwellings as ordinary maintenance, which may be performed without filing a permit application and without notice to the construction official. The same section treats the repair or replacement of existing siding on one- and two-family dwellings as ordinary maintenance, except that the repair or replacement of polypropylene siding is not ordinary maintenance.
