Fence permit checklist — Logan, Utah

Assembled from Logan’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Logan requires a permit for a fence.

When a permit is not required

Logan's Fence Permit Application calls for a building permit before any fence over 6 feet tall goes up, and likewise for a concrete retaining wall of 4 feet, gauged from the footing base to the wall's highest point. That same form recaps the fence standards in Land Development Code 17.30.100: on residential property the ceiling is 4 feet in a front yard and 6 feet in rear, side and corner yards behind the front plane of the home; chain link, barbed wire and comparable materials are not allowed in a front yard; commercial and industrial front yards top out at 4 feet. Fences must keep 15 feet of distance from a canal bank. Where a fence goes up inside an easement, whoever holds rights to that easement may take it out or alter it.
