Do you need a permit?
Riverside County does not require a permit for a shed.
Riverside County exempts one-story detached accessory structures of 120 square feet or less, but adds a condition the State does not: the structure must have no utilities. Run power, water or gas to the shed and the exemption is lost outright, not merely supplemented by a trade permit. Any shed over 120 square feet needs a building permit. Zoning setbacks and, on unincorporated parcels served by an onsite wastewater system, septic setbacks continue to apply to an exempt shed, as do fire hazard construction requirements in the designated high fire severity areas of the county.
