Fence permit checklist — Cape Coral, Florida
Assembled from Cape Coral’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Cape Coral requires a permit for a fence.
The $7,500 residential exemption created by Florida Statutes Section 553.79(1)(g) on July 1, 2026 does not clearly reach fencing in Cape Coral. City guidance bars structural components from the exemption without saying what it counts as structural, so a fence has no published answer here. The city also reports that more than 60 percent of its land is inside a FEMA mapped Special Flood Hazard Area, and properties there are excluded outright. Any exemption request must be filed and approved through the city online permitting portal before work begins.
