Cook County requires a permit for a fence.
Cook County's Department of Building and Zoning permits only unincorporated Cook County and the Forest Preserves of Cook County - its own page states the department 'oversees all building and zoning matters in the unincorporated areas of Cook County and all of the Forest Preserves of Cook County' and directs anyone inside a municipality to their local building and zoning authority. Fence is listed as its own permit type by the Department of Building and Zoning, so unincorporated Cook County does require a fence permit - unlike Harris and Dallas Counties, which require nothing for a fence outside a floodplain. Zoning rules on height and corner-lot visibility are reviewed with the application.
