Do you need a permit?
Amarillo requires a permit for general building work.
Amarillo publishes a 'Work Exempt - From Permit' page based on IRC Section 105, so the standard code exemptions apply: detached one-story accessory structures 200 square feet or less, decks 200 square feet or less that are 30 inches or less above grade, detached from the dwelling and not serving a required exit door, retaining walls 4 feet or less measured from the bottom of the footing unless supporting a surcharge, and roof repairs of one square (100 sq ft) or less. Anything beyond those thresholds needs a permit.
