Do you need a permit?
Amarillo requires a permit for a deck.
Per the city's Work Exempt From Permit page (IRC Section 105 basis), a deck is exempt when it does not exceed 200 square feet, is not more than 30 inches above grade, is not attached to the dwelling and does not serve the required exit door. Fail any one of those tests - attached to the house, over 200 square feet, elevated, or serving the exit door - and a permit is required.
