Do you need a permit?
Amarillo requires a permit for a retaining wall.
Amarillo exempts retaining walls that are not over 4 feet in height measured from the bottom of the footing to the top of the wall, unless the wall supports a surcharge (sloped backfill, a driveway, a structure or other load above). A wall over 4 feet measured that way, or any wall supporting a surcharge at any height, requires a permit and typically engineered plans.
