Amarillo requires a permit for electrical work.
The city's exempt-work page lists the standard minor electrical exemptions: cord-and-plug connected temporary lighting, replacement of receptacles and overcurrent devices, equipment operating at less than 25 volts and 50 watts, and lamp replacement. Everything else - new circuits, service upgrades, panel changes, rewiring - requires an electrical permit pulled by a licensed electrician.
