Plant Mix Pavement (Commercial Mix)

406.1DESCRIPTION

1 This section describes the requirements for providing, hauling, and placing one or more courses of commercial plant mix on a prepared foundation.

406.2MATERIALS

2 Provide plant mix pavement composed of a mixture of aggregate and asphalt binder from a commercial source. Obtain the engineer’s approval before adding natural fillers or commercial additives.

406.3EQUIPMENT

1 Provide equipment in accordance with Subsection 401.3, Equipment.

406.4CONSTRUCTION

1 Observe weather and temperature restrictions in accordance with Subsection 401.4.2, Weather and Seasonal Limitations.

2 At least 14 calendar days before use, submit the name of the proposed commercial source and a proposed mix design for the plant mix pavement to the engineer for approval. The mix design may be referenced to a mix design approved within 2 years of the award date of the contract.

3 Spread and finish the mix in accordance with Subsection 401.4.19, Spreading and Finishing.

4 Compact the mix to ensure an in-place density that equals or exceeds 92.0 percent of maximum density.

5 Ensure surface variations are as specified in the contract.

406.5MEASUREMENT and PAYMENT

406.5.1 General

1 The engineer will measure Plant Mix (Commercial) by the short ton [metric ton].
