Do you need a permit?
Maricopa County requires a permit for electrical work.
Maricopa County enforces the 2017 National Electrical Code with a locally amended exemption list. No electrical permit is needed for: repair or replacement of motors 50 HP or less, transformers 45 kVA or less, or fixed approved appliances of the same type and rating in the same location; temporary decorative lighting listed for cord-and-plug connection; in-kind repair or replacement of any switch other than a service disconnect, or any receptacle, contactor, control device or utilization equipment rated 60 amperes or less; in-kind replacement of any circuit breaker or fuse other than a service disconnect rated 200 amperes or less; sign and neon electrode or transformer replacement of the same size and capacity; temporary experimental-laboratory wiring; temporary wiring for theaters, motion picture and TV studios and performance areas not accessible to the public; Class 2 and Class 3 control and signal circuits not essential to life safety; and electrical work inside machinery or equipment that is not building service equipment. Service changes, new circuits and panel upgrades are not exempt.
