Orange County requires a permit for electrical work.
OC Development Services lists electrical systems among the work requiring a permit in unincorporated Orange County. With no County exempt-work handout published, the State CBC/CRC 105.2 electrical carve-outs apply, which are limited to minor maintenance such as replacing a lamp, a fuse or a snap switch. New circuits, service and panel upgrades, subpanels, EV charger circuits and rewires all require a permit, and the building permit exemption for a shed or fence does not waive the electrical permit if the structure is wired.
