Port St. Lucie requires a permit for a deck.
Structural work is excluded from the $7,500 residential exemption that Florida Statutes Section 553.79(1)(g) created on July 1, 2026, and Port St. Lucie has published no interpretation saying whether it counts deck framing as structural. Property lying wholly or partly in a flood hazard area as defined by the Florida Building Code is ineligible under the statute regardless. Because the city has issued no local exemption procedure, an owner who believes a deck qualifies has to follow the statutory route of a written request backed by documentation of scope and value, and take it up with the Building Department.
