Re-roof permit checklist — Port St. Lucie, Florida

Assembled from Port St. Lucie’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Port St. Lucie requires a permit for a re-roof.

When a permit is not required

Florida Statutes Section 553.79(1)(g), effective July 1, 2026, keeps structural work outside the $7,500 residential exemption. Whether a re-roof counts as structural is a question Port St. Lucie has not answered publicly. The statute independently disqualifies property lying wholly or partly in a flood hazard area as the Florida Building Code defines it, and it makes the exemption conditional on a written request supported by the contract or comparable proof of scope and value. Port St. Lucie has issued no exemption form and no published procedure.
