Water heater permit checklist — Port St. Lucie, Florida

Assembled from Port St. Lucie’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Port St. Lucie requires a permit for a water heater.

When a permit is not required

Replacing a water heater in Port St. Lucie still requires a permit. Plumbing work is excluded by name from the $7,500 residential exemption in Florida Statutes Section 553.79(1)(g), which took effect July 1, 2026, and gas work is excluded as well, so a gas-fired unit is covered twice over. The city has published no local exemption process.
