Fences sit in an unresolved spot under the $7,500 residential exemption added by Florida Statutes Section 553.79(1)(g) on July 1, 2026. The statute withholds the exemption from structural work without defining the term, and Port St. Lucie has published no reading of its own, so there is no local answer on whether a fence qualifies. The statutory bar on property wholly or partly within a flood hazard area applies regardless, as does the requirement that the owner file a written request with documentation before treating any work as exempt.
