Deck permit checklist — Tampa, Florida
Assembled from Tampa’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Tampa requires a permit for a deck.
Tampa publishes no local deck exemption, and the statewide $7,500 residential exemption at Fla. Stat. 553.79(1)(g), effective July 1, 2026, does not clearly supply one. That paragraph keeps structural work out of the exemption at every value without saying whether a deck qualifies as structural, and Tampa has not stated a position, so a deck permit should be assumed necessary until Construction Services says otherwise. Property inside a Florida Building Code flood hazard area is barred from the exemption in any event.
