Do you need a permit?
Tampa requires a permit for electrical work.
Tampa Code Section 5-105.2 lists work exempt from permits, including installation, replacement, removal, or metering of any load management control device. Emergency repairs may be made without prior permit, with an application submitted the next working business day. The $7,500 residential permit exemption that Fla. Stat. 553.79(1)(g) brought in statewide on July 1, 2026 does not extend to electrical work; the statute names the electrical trade as ineligible whatever the value. The Section 5-105.2 items above are therefore still the only route to unpermitted electrical work in Tampa.
