Austin requires a permit for a deck.
A deck needs no building permit when it covers 200 square feet or less, rises no higher than 30 inches off the ground at every point, stands clear of any dwelling or townhouse, serves no egress function, and sits outside a flood hazard area, per the City's Work Exempt from Building Permits page.
