Fence permit checklist — Austin, Texas
Assembled from Austin’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Austin requires a permit for a fence.
The Fencing Regulations webpage states that all fences must comply with the code requirements in its "What is Regulated" section even if the fence does not require a permit. The Residential Fence Permit Application states that a permit is not required if the fence is 7 feet or less in height and is not in a flood hazard area, and that all of City Code section 25-2-899 still applies.
