General building work permit checklist — Herriman, Utah

Assembled from Herriman’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Herriman requires a permit for general building work.

When a permit is not required

Herriman does not publish one consolidated exemption list; thresholds appear on the individual permit-type pages. Detached accessory structures of 200 square feet or less do not need a building permit unless electrical, heating or plumbing is added, in which case an electrical/mechanical/plumbing permit is required. Decks 30 inches or less above the lowest grade within 36 inches of any deck edge, with no new roof structure and not serving the required exit, need no permit. Adding a single additional layer of shingles (maximum two layers total) needs no re-roof permit. Repair and maintenance of existing electrical, mechanical or plumbing systems needs no permit.
