General building work permit checklist — Santa Clarita, California
Assembled from Santa Clarita’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Santa Clarita requires a permit for general building work.
The Santa Clarita Building Code amends CBC Section 105.2 with a detailed list of exempt work, and adds Section 105.2.3 exempting ordinary repairs and maintenance. Exempt items relevant to general building work include general building maintenance, painting and papering, drywall repairs under 200 square feet where not part of a fire-rated assembly, replacement of glass panes in existing frames meeting safety glazing rules, and repair of minor dry-rot or termite damage where the replaced elements do not reduce structural integrity. Ordinary repairs never include cutting away walls or structural beams or altering required means of egress.
