Santa Clarita requires a permit for electrical work.
Santa Clarita Building Code Section 105.2 notes that unless otherwise exempted, separate electrical permits are required even for items exempted from a building permit, and directs readers to the 2025 California Electrical Code with local amendments for additional exemptions. Section 105.2.3 exempts replacement of any component part of electrical equipment provided it does not alter the equipment's approval or make it unsafe. Sheds between 120 and 250 square feet built under a foundation-only permit may include one 20-amp branch circuit, one light fixture and one GFCI outlet without a separate electrical permit.
