Garland requires a permit for general building work.
Garland requires a residential building permit for new homes, additions, major renovations, garage conversions, foundation repair and demolition. There is no blanket dollar-value exemption for structural work on a house; the city's small-project thresholds live in the individual permit categories instead (for example, accessory buildings are exempt only under 20 square feet, and roof repairs are exempt only when the repair value is under $2,000).
