Fence permit checklist — Garland, Texas
Assembled from Garland’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Garland requires a permit for a fence.
Garland does not require a permit for every fence. A fence permit is triggered only when the fence is on a corner lot, when there is a swimming pool in the rear yard, when the height, location or materials are changing (for example chain link to wood, or wood to wrought iron), or when a fence is being installed where one has never existed. Like-for-like replacement of an interior-lot fence with no pool therefore falls outside the permit requirement. Subdivision and HOA fencing material rules may still apply and are not enforced by the city.
