Electrical work permit checklist — Tarrant County, Texas

Assembled from Tarrant County’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.

Do you need a permit?

Tarrant County does not require a permit for electrical work.

When a permit is not required

Tarrant County issues no electrical permits, so residential electrical work in the unincorporated area involves no county application or inspection. The county has no residential building-permit program, and its published approvals for unincorporated development contain no electrical permit. The control on this work is state law: under Occupations Code Sec. 1305.151 (Texas Electrical Safety and Licensing Act), electrical work may only be performed by a person or business holding a license issued or recognized by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. New single-family or duplex construction built for sale includes electrical work within the framing/mechanical third-party inspection required under Loc. Gov't Code ch. 233 subch. F, but no county electrical permit or fee attaches. Cities in Tarrant County issue their own electrical permits inside their limits.
