Shed permit checklist — Tarrant County, Texas
Assembled from Tarrant County’s own published permit rules. Every line below is quoted from a city document and linked to it. Nothing here is generated, estimated, or inferred from another jurisdiction.
Do you need a permit?
Tarrant County does not require a permit for a shed.
No county permit attaches to a residential storage shed or accessory building in unincorporated Tarrant County. The county issues no building permits or certificates of occupancy for residential property and enforces no zoning, and its published approvals for unincorporated development do not include accessory structures. The Fire Code construction permit applies only to commercial establishments, public buildings and multifamily dwellings of four or more units. Location in a FEMA-designated floodplain is the exception: all work there requires a county Floodplain Permit before construction. Cities and, in some cases, their ETJs impose their own shed permits and setback rules inside their boundaries.
