486 623.13 -CURING AND PROTECTING SHOTCRETE : Unless otherwise specified, s hotcrete shall be cured as outlined in Section 601.12. Immediately after shotcreting and not to exceed 30 minutes after placement, initial curing is to commen ce. The surface of the concrete must be continually kept moist using a fogging system. Use equipment that produces a fog spray from atomizing nozzles that will uniformly cover the concrete surface. The minimum rate of fog application shall not be less 10.6 gal./h/yd2. The number and placement of nozzles shall be dependent on the discretion of the Engineer. The mist must be fine enough as to not disturb the finished surface of shotcrete. Final curing must be done through fogging, sprinkling, or a combination of burlap sacks with sprinkling or plastic -coated synthetic fabric with sprinkling. The burlap sacks and plastic -coated synthetic fabric must be kept continually saturated with water by sprinkling. Set up fogging equipment to allow complete coverage of th e area to be cured. The surface of the concrete must be continuously kept wept from the time of placement and the alternation of wetting and drying of the concrete surface will not be allowed. Perform sprinkling for final curing by using either soaker hose s or lawn sprinklers. The surface of the concrete is to not be eroded by running water. All methods of final curing must be performed for a period of 7 calendar days. If no other curing method is available due to project limitations, curing compounds can be used and must be placed in two coats of different orientations of application one vertical and the other horizontal, to ensure a complete seal. Use of curing compounds is only permitted on the final layer of shotcrete and not between layers of applicati on.
623.14 Method of Measurement :
The quantity of shotcrete to be paid for will be the number of square yards complete in place and accepted.
623.15 Basis of Pay Ment :
The quantities, determined, as provided above, will be paid for at the contract unit price, and shall constitute full compensation for furnishing and preparing of a ll materials, including reinforcing steel, all items incorporated into the shotcrete work as shown in the Plans such as anchors and bolts, placing, finishing, testing, and curing shotcrete, and all labor, equipment, tools, supplies, and incidentals necessa ry to complete the work.
623.16 Pay Items :
ITEM DESCRIPTION UNIT 623001 -* Shotcrete Square Yard * Sequence Number 487 SECTION 624 PREFORMED ELASTOMERIC JOINT SEALER 624.1 -DESCRIPTION : This work shall include furnishing and installing preformed elastomeric joint sealers for bridge decks in accordance with these Specifications and in reasonably close conformity with the lines and grades shown on the Plans or established by the Engineer. The joint sealer, to serve both as a filler and a sealer, shall be furnished in the form of an extruded compartmented tube . 624.2 -MATERIALS : Material for preformed elastomeric joint sealer shall conform to the requirements of subsection 708.2. 624.3 -PREPARATION OF JOINT : The joint shall be formed to provide the nominal opening at the specified temperature as shown on the Plans, edges of concrete or epoxy mortar adjacent to the joint shall be rounded t o a radius of not more than ¼ inch. A joint having insufficient opening may be required to be sawed or ground to the proper size. Where a joint opening is larger than that specified, the Contractor may be required to build up the joint with epoxy mortar or to furnish a larger size sealer as determined by the Engineer. The cost of any such additional work or material shall be borne by the Contractor. Before placement of the sealer, the joint shall be thoroughly cleaned by brushing, compressed air or othe r means, so that it is free from dust, oil, grease or other foreign materials. 624.4 -INSTALLATION : The sealer shall be installed by suitable hand or machine tools which will not cause injury to the material during installation. A lubricant or lubricant -adhesive shall be used if, and as, recommended by the manufacturer of the sealer. During installation, the sealer shall not be subjected to lengthwise stretching; the length to be installed sha ll be measured prior to installation and cut or marked to indicate the installed length. Sealer for transverse joints shall be in one continuous length; longitudinal joint sealers may be spliced at intervals of not less than fifty ( 50) feet except where i ntersected by transverse joints. The top surface of the sealer after installation shall be ¼ inch, with a plus 1/16 inch tolerance, below the adjacent roadway surface. 624.5 -METHOD OF MEASUREMENT : When this Item is called for on the Plans, the filler and joint sealer will be measured in place in linear feet. 624.6 -BASIS OF PAYMENT : The cost of preformed elastomeric joint sealer, complete in place, including lubricant or lubricant -adhesive will be paid for at the contract unit price bid for the item listed below, which price and payment shall be full compensatio n for furnishing all the materials and doing all the work prescribed in a workmanlike and acceptable manner including all labor, tools, equipment, supplies and incidentals necessary to complete the work. 624.7 -PAY ITEM : ITEM DESCRIPTION UNIT 624001 -* Preformed Elastomeric Joint Sealer Linear Foot * Sequence number
