811 709.46 -STEEL POSTS, POST BRACES AND GATE FRAMES FOR RIGHT -OF-WAY FENCE : Unless otherwise specified, all right -of-way fence posts, post braces and grate frames shall meet the requirements of AASHTO M 181. Either Grade 1 or Grade 2 may be used unless one is specifically called for in the contract. Pipe members shall have the dimensions and weights called for on the plans. Studded tee posts used as line posts for farm -field fence shall conform to the requirements of either AASHTO M 281 / ASTM A702 or ASTM A499 and coated to meet the requirements of AASHTO M 111 unless otherwise directed on project plans.

709.47 : Blank

709.48 Cadmium Coated Materials :

Cadmium coated (electrodeposited) steel articles, steel hardware, nuts, bolts, etc. shall meet the requirements of ASTM B766.

709.49 Sheet Lead :

Sheet lead shall conform to the requirements of ASTM B29.

709.50 Steel Pile Points :

Steel pile points may be either ASTM A27 Grade 65/35 cast steel or ASTM A148 Grade 90/60. Pile points will be approved by the Materials Control, Soil and Testing Division.

709.51 Surface Mount Sign Support Brea Kaway Devices :

Surface Mount Sign Support Breakaway Devices shall be designed for use with 2 -lb/ft and/or 3 -lb/ft u -channel supports shown on Standard Details Book Volume II (Standard Deta ils) sheets TE1 -7A and TE1 -7B, and/or 2” x 14 -gauge Square Tube Supports as described in Section 657. The purpose of the device shall be to create an omni -directional breakaway, low maintenance support installation on asphalt and concrete surfaces which do es not require any portion of the support to be installed below grade. The device shall be designed for use with one or more of the support types/sizes specified above. Differences in the dimensioning of components used with each type/size support is permi ssible. The device shall be designed and tested to meet the following requirements:

i.Withstand loading which meets or exceeds that which will be generated based on the Support Size Selection Chart on Sheet TE1 -7A, as well as cyclical loading, without failure. ii. Shall be compatible with one or more of the u -channel supports listed on the Div ision Approved Products List (APL) for U -Channel Posts, and/or square tube support which meet the requirements of Section 709.55. iii. Shall be designed to be surface mounted on both asphalt and concrete surfaces of nominal minimum thickness. Concrete foundatio ns shall not be required. iv. Components shall be manufactured using aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, exterior grade epoxy coated steel, or similar material exhibiting weather resistance equal to or greater than those described.
v.Shall not require modification of the support for installation. vi. Shall be designed to be anchored to the surface and shall not require saw cutting, jackhammering, etc. of the asphalt or concrete.
